BSU @ ECWCA 2017

Four graduate students and three undergraduate students from Ball State University attended and presented at the East Central Writing Center Association along with Writing Center Director Dr. Grutsch McKinney in Dowagiac, Michigan this March.

Attending writing center conferences give tutors a chance to learn from other writing center professionals about writing center work and research as well as the opportunity to contribute to writing center scholarship themselves.

IWP/Writing Center Workshop: “Making High School Writers College Ready”

Thanks to the teachers who traveled from near and far to join us (even in the rainy weather) for our first Indiana Writing Project/Writing Center joint workshop! We had great discussions about goals of first year composition courses, common struggles of college and high school writers, and ways writing centers can work to support learning writers.

New Book! Peripheral Visions for Writing Centers

Peripheral Visions for Writing Centers aims to inspire a re-conception and re-envisioning of the boundaries of writing center work. Moving beyond the grand narrative of the writing center—that it is solely a comfortable, yet iconoclastic place where all students go to get one-to-one tutoring on their writing—McKinney shines light on other representations of writing center work.

Dr. Grutsch McKinney is an Associate Professor of Rhetoric and Composition at Ball State University where she teaches undergraduate and graduate courses and directs the Writing Center. Her research focuses writing center studies, writing research, and composition pedagogy.
